How to Avoid a Mugger[泽鳄]
---------- What to Do in an Emergency
Walk with friends if possible, and stay with them all the way to your front door.
If you are dropped off at home by car, ask the driver to wait until you are inside.
Stay in well-lit streets at night, and avoid alleys.
Walk on the street side of the pavement, or in the middle, so that an attacker lurking in a doorway or alley has farther to come to reach you.
Walk with confidence, even if you do not feel it. An air of purposefulness is often enough to deter an attack.
On a familiar train route, try to sit in a car that will pull up near the exit at your station. You will save yourself a lonely and potentially dangerous walk along what may be a dimly lit platform. If you do not know where the exit is, sit near the middle of the train; that way, at worst, you will have to walk only half the length of the platform.
On a road, walk facing the traffic. That way, a car cannot pull up behind you unobserved. Do not hitchhike.
If you have a bag, hold it with the flap toward you, and in the hand or on the shoulder away from the road. Some muggers work on motorcycles or scooters, snatching handbags as they ride by.
Keep your keys in your pocket, not in a briefcase or handbag. Then, if a mugger steals the bag, you can still get home.
