Today we mark the 103rd birth anniversary of Theodor Geisel (better remembered as Dr. Seuss), and, not coincidentally, the tenth anniversary of Read Across America. (来源：英语杂志 http://www.EnglishCN.com)

Read Across America is the brainchild of the National Education Association, which dedicates the day to encouraging children (of all ages) to pick up a book and read. Over the past decade, activities to promote reading have included such events as inviting professional athletes and celebrities to be guest readers to children, creating poetry slams for older children, and cooking up green eggs and ham.

And then there's Project Two Three Six, which honors The Cat in the Hat, turning 50 this year. The name Two Three Six has a story of its own; when Pulitzer Prize winner John Hersey challenged Theodor Geisel to write a book that, in Hersey's words, "first graders wouldn't be able to put down," Dr. Seuss did just that, using only 236 words in the process.

So what's involved in the Project? One thing only. Today, at 2:36 p.m., the entire country is invited to join in the national read aloud of The Cat in the Hat.
